Sophia Alexandra Abrahams
Queen Sophia I
First Marinera Competition in North America, 2017
The first Queen of Club Libertad Norteamerica, Sophia Abrahams, is the perfect combination of two fascinating cultures: The United States of America and the over 1,000 year old culture of Peru. Sofia lives in Virginia but every year she travels to Peru.
From an American father and Peruvian mother, Sophia was born in Maryland, on March 13, 2006. She speaks, reads, and writes Spanish as well as English. She also has two 7-year-old twin sisters.
Sophia's favorite hobby is baking cakes and her favorite foods are pasta and ceviche (delicious Peruvian appetizer made of fresh fish). She is an outstanding student at Saint Joseph School in Herndon, Virginia, where she is always in the Honor Roll. Sophia also participates in different activities, like swimming, tennis, robotics, reading (Battle of the Books), but her great passion is playing basketball and being part of a travel team. And as if that were not enough, she is also a girl scout; and her goal in life is to become a robotics engineer.
When she was 6 years old, her mom took her to a marinera contest, where Sophia became so fascinated with the beautiful dance and the participants' costumes that marinera became her new passion. Her first marinera instructor was world champion Karin Meza from Garbo y Salero. Currently, Sophia is part of the marinera academy La Decana, Abelardo Gamarra, under Cindy Ali's direction. Both prestigious marinera schools are located in Virginia.
Without any doubt, Sophia I, is a wonderful queen!
